I first heard of Jackie
Pflug during a conversation with my brother Ted Miller, CEO of E.A. Miller Inc, a subsidiary of Con
Agra Meat Company. Jackie had been a guest speaker for Ted at a management meeting held in northern Utah. His description of
Jackie's presentation immediately interested me in exploring how our company could use Jackie to
motivate 40 managers at our semi-annual senior management meeting. After some
initial research, we concluded that Jackie's experience and, more particularly, her recovery from the severe injuries
could serve as a model to help our management team better deal with personal and
job-related challenges.
Jackie was the keynote speaker at our annual meeting held in San Diego during
November 2000. She did a fabulous job!
Our goal was to put into proper perspective the challenges we face daily
in our personal
life and on the job. Of course the story or the hijacking is riveting, but her struggles and lessons
along the road to recovery touched each person in the audience in a
special way. I found myself mentally in her position, wondering if I could have met
the challenges and personal struggles in the admirable way Jackie did. I'm not sure! But I was left
with a sense that the human spirit is stronger than one understands, and a person can overcome great personal
tragedy by perseverance and faith. Without question, all in the audience
that evening were impacted by her warm and personal story. I can honestly say that our goal was surpassed, and
I would recommend Jackie Pflug as a superior motivational speaker who not only talks the talk,
but walks the talk as well.
Thanks, Jackie, for a great evening and the lessons learned.
Sincerely,
John R. Miller
